Notably, our sail broke while we were making good speed, an incident that turned into an exhilarating experience for my friend and a testament to our ability to remain composed under pressure. The base team's prompt and efficient repair work was commendable, allowing us to continue our journey with minimal disruption. Another memorable moment was when water began gushing in through the propeller shaft. Despite the potential stress of the situation, the timing coincidentally aligned with our plans to hike to a nearby waterfall, turning a challenge into an opportunity for an unplanned adventure. The base team's swift response and repair were once again impressive, showcasing their skill and dedication. The Learning Curve: The trip served as a crash course for my friend, not only in sailing but in resilience and leadership through my MindKaizen program. The technical challenges we faced on the slightly worn boat provided real-world lessons in handling unexpected situations, a crucial skill for any sailor and leader. Tips and Recommendations: For those considering a similar sailing adventure, it's worth noting that while the boat may show signs of wear, the expertise and friendliness of the base team more than compensates for any shortcomings. Their ability to handle repairs quickly and efficiently cannot be overstated. Final Thoughts: Though our sailing time was limited by weather conditions—an uncontrollable factor—the overall experience was invaluable. The trip may have been short, but the lessons learned, and the memories made were rich and fulfilling. It's a reminder that sometimes, the journey's challenges are what make it truly memorable. Many thanks Island Spirit team!
A big thank you to the entire Island Spirit Group team for this wonderful cruise in the Koh Chang archipelago. We sailed as a family on the Island Spirit 380 in January 2024 from Koh Chang. The welcome at the base was wonderful: Raymond and his team accompanied us from A to Z. The beaches and bays are protected and there are excellent restaurants at each anchorage. Well managed charter service
Despite a relative lack of wind I was impressed with how clean and organized the boat and departure was handled. Efficient and highly professional. The briefing was probably the best i have had across the 11 charters I have taken. I particular, Raymond really explained the electronics exceptionally well. Excelent holidays, excelent support,
My wife and I chartered a Catalina 375 beginning of June, starting our 10 day journey in Koh Samui. It was great all the way through, starting with making the booking ahead of time and then during the trip (very helpful with groceries shopping, getting our gear on board, getting us set up with information about the boat, the area we would be sailing in, returning to Koh Samui at the end etc.). Communication and effort to support us was excellent from Base Manager Raymond and his team. Daily updates were sent including weather details which made us feel supported. A few days into the trip we had a minor electrical motor problem. Raymond and his crew came to our location, fixed everything and we could continue on our route. The sailing area was great and we would go there again, but for more than 10 days. We liked the more quiet bays, which you find easily when you leave the tourist areas. Thanks to Island Spirit Charter, we had a perfect sailtrip around the Koh Samui archipelago. Koh Samui and the area is great for sailing tropical islands. We had a very friendly and professional service thanks to Raymond and his crew. Excellent briefing and good communication during the trip - always direct response when questioning. Excelent service - excelent vacation
We booked a Lagoon 400 S2 for 2 weeks. Island Spirit Sailing send us upfront details to the region and good place to go. On the day of arrival Island Spirit Sailing managed for us the transport from the airport to our chartered yacht. Due to the fact that in Ko Samui no yachting infrastructure (like harbor or docks are availabvle) Island Spirit managed an excelent onbording using the dinghy. Further the handover of the yacht and instructions to use was done excelent and easy. During the whole vacation we received daily from Island Spirit Sailing in the morning weather and tide informations via Whatsapp - In case of potential dangerous weather situation (like squalls) further updates where provided. For questions during the charter Island Spirit Sailing answered in short time via Whatsapp as well - Real good support. Some remarks to the area round Ko Samui: Beautiful beaches, after leaving Ko Samui very low other yachts, region very shallow (max. 50m, mostly only some meters deep), very beautiful irlands, many nice animals,... Only 2 topics negative topics for that region: -) very limited sight under water (except Ko Tao) - therefore snorkling was nearly not possible -) We found nearly no locations where we could litter our trash - The necessry infrastructure in Thailand seems still missing -> But Island Spirit Sailing supported us to litter our trash... The region for yachting is not easy and requires the attention of the skipper. Navionics charts are often incorrect. Currents and tides as the additional element of risk. Special thanks to the staff of the charter company, provided us daily weather and tide information. As well as for their recommendations for safe anchorages. There are only two fresh water filling stations in the region, so you need to carefully plan your route. When travelling with children, you should be extremely careful: undercurrents, jellyfish, sunburn. Anchorages at 2-3 meters depth. And it's at least a mile to the shore. We need to closely monitor the fuel consumption of the Dinghy. Оtherwise the region is extremely exotic and has its own charm. Excellent restaurants. Good diving with clear water in Koh Tao area. Elephants, monkeys, squirrels, wild boars - there are a lot of living creatures on the islands. The region is safe for tourists. The yachts are in good condition. Amazing time
Catalina 375 - Ko Samui & neighboring islands We were a crew of ambitious sailors and we had an amazing time exploring the islands and sailing between them. The boat was in good shape, it is equipped with everything needed - from sailing charts & maps to snorkels! The islands themselves are little paradises; mooring and anchoring were easy, and with the dingy we were able to get onshore super fast. We had a problem with the dingy motor throughout the week, but due to our skipper and constant communication/supervision by the Island Spirit staff we were able to fix it. The supervision and communication overall were really good, every day we were informed about the weather, upcoming winds, and other information about the islands. The handover at the beginning and end of our trip went smoothly. We are looking forward to the next time!
